Here’s What’s New in Copilot Wave 3

If your firm uses Microsoft 365 every day, you’ve probably noticed that Copilot keeps quietly evolving. Microsoft bundles updates into “waves” rather than releasing everything at once. Copilot Wave 3 is the latest phase, and it represents a meaningful shift in how Microsoft Copilot for law firms can work.

Earlier versions focused on helping you: drafting emails, summarizing documents, building presentations. Useful features, but ones that still require you to guide every single step.

Wave 3 changes the dynamic.

Copilot Starts Taking Ownership of Workflows

The biggest update is the ability to build your own AI agents inside Microsoft 365. These are small, task-focused assistants you configure to handle specific, repeatable parts of your day without constant input.

For a law firm, that could mean an agent managing routine admin, organizing documents, or supporting internal processes automatically.

Copilot’s chat experience has also become more capable. You can now make changes to documents, emails, and spreadsheets directly from a conversation, without jumping between applications.

A new feature called “Work IQ” helps Copilot understand your firm’s specific context, drawing on your data and communication patterns to produce more relevant, tailored responses.

Looking ahead, “Copilot Coworker” is in testing. It will allow AI agents to carry out longer, multi-step processes without needing prompts at every stage.

As Copilot grows more capable, it also needs to be properly managed. If you’d like help using these updates safely and effectively, get in touch with Amicus IT.
